Truss tomatoes are almost always grown in greenhouses. The varieties ripen uniformly with the fruit remaining strongly attached to the fruiting stem. This allows the fruit to be sold as a cluster or bunch. Round, red fruited varieties typically have around six fruit in a bunch with each fruit being around 120-140 grams. Cherry and cocktail size fruit can also come in a truss style.
Because these are grown in the protected environment of a greenhouse the fruit is always of high quality and has excellent presentation. Typically these sell for a higher price than outdoor fruit in recognition of the higher cost of production.
Seasons: Available all year round.
Regions: The growing regions in Western Australia are Perth & Surrounds, Coral Coast and the South West.
