June, July, August, September, October, November, December
This variety, originally from California, is known for its large firm fruit that can vary in shape from conical to wedge and deep red to crimson colour. The fruit can be very large early in the season (up to 60 grams each) and sometimes the fruit has a hollow centre.
It is the most widely grown variety in Western Australia.
Seasons: Available from late June to December, peaking between August to December.
Regions: The main growing region in Western Australia is Perth and Surrounds, specifically Wanneroo. A smaller amount is grown in the South West and Great Southern regions, specifically Albany and Mt Barker.
Contrary to other varieties, large fruit of the Camarosa usually tastes better than the smaller fruit.
The fruit is very firm and consequently has a longer shelf life than other varieties and under good conditions can be stored between 5- 7 days.
